Just like Sundays are for brunch, Tuesdays are for tacos. Plus it’s cinco de drinko so let’s make this Tuesday for tequilaaa too. Here are some of my favorite taco joints in LA offering takeout. It’s not too late to change dinner plans and order in to celebrate tonight. Support your local businesses!!
I’ll start with what we’re having tonight to celebrate today’s festivities…

This taco truck has been on my hit list for FOREVER. Every single time I pass by La Brea and Venice there is a line at this truck. They’ve been around for 9 years and have opened up 8 trucks all over Los Angeles!!! I’m so excited.

I was so excited to hear 1986 was opening up in Downtown. Being a San Diego native - while I love my vegan/eccentric tacos, I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Tijuana style street tacos. Cue Tacos 1986. They offer tacos, quesadillas, mulitas, and vampiros with your choice of asada, mushroom, adobada, and chicken. I’ve had them all and it’s ALL GOOD. My friends describe mulitas as the Mexican grilled cheese. Vampiros are tacos that have a firmer/crunchier tortilla. Order via Postmates, Caviar, Doordash, and Grubhub linked here.

I'm pretty indecisive so my favorite part about Guisados is that they offer a SAMPLER. 6 mini tacos!
Steak Picado - flank steak simmered with green bell peppers and bacon. Served with green serrano chile atop black beans.
Bistek en Salsa Roja - flank steak simmered with red peppers and tomatoes. Served with chile de arbol and avocado above black beans.
Tinga de Pollo - Shredded chicken breast braised with tomatoes, cabbage, chorizo and chipotle. Served with chipotle chile and avocado.
Chicharron - Pork rinds simmered in chile verde. Served with green serrano, chile, black beans. This one is noticeably different. You can TASTE alllll the fat. It soaks up the chile and has the perfect amount of spice for the texture. So yummy.
Cochinita Pibil - shredded pork cooked in a sweet, red achiote spice with black beans. Served with Yucatan compliments: picked red onions and habanero chile. This one was probably my favorite!!! The spice and flavors. SO satisfying.
Mole Poblano - shredded chicken breast in a nutty poblano style mole, sour cream queso fresco (my fave!), red onion, and dried chile.

Favorite: OMG the al pastor tacos were amazinggggg. The al pastor has a hint of sweetness and it's so good! The BEST part of the meal is the spicy red hot sauce. I'm so used to weak hot sauce from other spots and having to pour massive amounts on, but the King Taco sauce is fiiiiire! Order via Postmates.

Taco truck that offers the best taco dorados, which is basically a DEEP FRIED TACO. The perfect combination of crunchy, chewy, saucy, and cheesy. I’m drooling just thinking about it. They have your traditional beef, chicken, and pork but they have that real real: goat, beef tongue, cheek and lips. LIPS? Yes, LIPS!! Don’t sleep on the broth. Dip your dorado taco in it, drink it, bathe in it. IDC just don’t forget it. Pick up only.

I think I might like vegan tacos better than regular tacos! Sugar Taco does vegan ‘meat’ RIGHT. I'm obsessed with the jackfruit carnitas. We only ordered the carnitas burrito at first, but ended up ordering a couple of tacos too. I was also blown away by the fish taco. We miss coming to Sugar Taco and enjoying our meal in the cute patio. The whole restaurant is vibrant and fun. They aren’t open today, but definitely give them a try; Open Friday to Sunday 12:00PM - 7:00PM for pickup and delivery via Grubhub. They also have “Quarantine Specials” from avocado and beans to Mi Campo Reposado!

Cinco de Mayo Impossible Fiesta Box: 8 build your own impossible tacos, includes all the fixins, rice, beans, chips, and salsa. Services 3-4.
