LA Thai Food Guide
Thai food is uniquely flavorful with the perfect combination of sweet, savory, salty, and SPICY. Love that every dish has a kick that can be customized to your liking. Thailand has been at the top of my travel bucket list for quite some time now mainly for the food. I am dying to visit the famous floating markets and enjoy Thai street food. In the meantime - so thankful for so many great and authentic Thai restaurants here in LA. A list of my faves…
RUEN PAIR
5257 Hollywood Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90027
In the heart of Thai Town, North Hollywood. Bombs and authentic. THE BEST THAI FOOD IN LA. Open late. VERY CHEAP. Noticeable quality; everything is prepared and cooked to perfection. The spice was intense, but didn't overpower the flavors of the dishes. Literally everything is delicious - but I highly recommend the raw crab papaya salad, drunken noodles, crab fried rice, tom yum soup.
SAPP COFFEE HOUSE
5183 Hollywood Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90027
Thank you to the late Anthony Bourdain for discovering yet another gold mine. This totally unassuming hole-in-the-wall is home to one of my favorite meals: jade noodles. The noodles are slightly al dente, the crab is super fresh, the roasted duck is tender/savory and the pork is sweet. So much flavor in one dish! Mix it well before enjoying! Side note: Sapp also has the best boat noodles in LA!
SANAMLUANG
5176 Hollywood Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90027
Pad Thai is a staple dish and probably the first Thai dish I’ve ever tried. Dare I say it? Sanamluang probably, most likely, 100% makes the best pad thai in LA. Noodles are DRENCHED with flavor. Open late nights for your post-ratchet Hollywood night needs.
LUV2EAT THAI BISTRO
6660 W Sunset Blvd
Los Angeles, CA 90028
The first time we dined in, our waiter highly recommended the fried chicken. We normally wouldn't order something as 'basic' as fried chicken at a Thai restaurant lol but so glad we did. Luv2Eat's chicken is so perfectly breaded, so crispy and don’t get me started on the sauce. I've had so much of the menu already including the jade noodles (almost as good as Sapp’s, hehe) papaya salad, crab curry, drunken noodles, pad thai. Seriously everything is so tasty.
GALANGA THAI FUSION
7440 Santa Monica Blvd
West Hollywood, CA 90046
Thai food with a twist. I highly recommend the chile lime fish - steamed to perfection and just melts in your mouth. Also love the emerald noodles (buckwheat noodles with green Thai chicken curry and topped with veggies).
THE THAI THING
6015 W 3rd St
Los Angeles, CA 90036
Since I've lived in LA, I've seen this space as SO MANY different restaurants; from ice cream to a butchery to now The Thai Thing! And I hope this one is here to stay! They have most of your staples but I really enjoyed one of their unique dishes - green curry with a side of vermicelli noodles.
OTUS THAI KITCHEN AND COFFEE
1253 N La Brea Ave
West Hollywood, CA 90038
WHY OH WHY DID I WAIT THIS LONG TO TRY THAI BREAKFAST? I love the kai-kata - ground chicken, green onions, sweet sausage, and a fried egg. It's served with a perfectly toasted baguette. I’ve also had the Ga-Prao - Ground chicken stir fried with basil, chili, and bamboo shoots topped with rice and a fried egg. The bamboo shoots were sooooo good.
