Sushi Bar: Outdoor 17-Course Omakase in Los Angeles

In an unassuming strip mall in Encino, you’ll escape to an exceptional outdoor omakase experience - 17 courses with an optional drink pairing including sake and japanese whisky cocktails. In typical/non-pandemic times, Sushi|Bar is a speakeasy with an exciting entrance through a golden doorbell and a path through Scratch|Bar’s kitchen. Now, they have a cool little set-up right out front. Bar seating aka front row seats to see the swanky sushi chefs work their nigiri magic. Limited to 8 people for each dining hour giving you an intimate dinner party feel, even though your party is safely separated from other parties with plexiglass :).

You are asked to arrive 15 minutes early to enjoy their complimentary welcome cocktails for a little pre-game. Then, everyone is seated and the magic begins. Each nigiri course is unique, but follows the same rule of fresh, top quality fish/meat and inventive toppings like sourdough bread crumbs, serrano, corn puree, matcha, bone marrow, and my fave - black truffle. Are you drooling yet?

It’s not a cheap date - $125 for the 17 courses + more for a drink pairing (depending on your choice of beer, choice sake, premium sake, and/or cocktails) + extra items you may want to add on at the end. I would definitely recommend the omakase and skip out on the drink pairing; I didn’t think it was worth it. Order your drinks of choice. Even though I was completely satisfied at the end of the meal, I didn’t want it to end so I ordered another one of the scallops and their uni/black truffle hand roll. P.S. dessert counts as a course so don’t be disappointed when your last course isn’t another piece of mouthwatering nigiri, lol.
