LA Restaurant Review: Girl & the Goat

Before you continue to read (or do anything else), please make a reservation now because they STAY BOOKED-let me tell you. When Nico was born back in June, my husband and I were craving a date night at a new, trendy restaurant. We couldn’t find an opening (at a decent dinner hour) until October - 4 months out! So again, make a reservation NOW.

Girl & the Goat is originally from Chicago and I first heard about it back in 2016 when I visited for the first time. It was highly recommended by locals. Unfortunately, there were no reservations available during our visit (duh) so I bookmarked it for our next trip. Welp, we haven’t gone back to Chicago since BUT thankfully Girl & the Goat came to us. So on top of the 4 months we had to wait for our reservation is another 5 years of anticipation. WORTH THE WAIT? 100% YAS.

The restaurant is stunning and definitely goes with the Arts District vibe. Fancy, not pretentious. Warm and welcoming. Lots of greenery and vibrant art work with floor to ceiling windows. We mentioned to our waiter that it was our birthmonth and wedding anniversary month (he asked if we were celebrating anything) and he brought us complimentary champagne for dessert. So sweet.

cocktail menu is yum.

My husband was running late from work so I headed over first to secure our reservation. So I seized the moment and joined all the other singles waiting for their Tinder dates at the bar.

The cocktail menu is seasonal and exquisite. My go-to is a mezcal old fashioned and they nailed it.

Also I love their corkage policy: They waive the corkage fee ($35/bottle) for the first bottle if you gift a glass to another guest!

pork liver mousse

crumpets, biscuit crackers, pickled persimmon, blueberry mostarda. We ordered a couple of appetizers but this is a definite must order. Forget crackers, they have biscuit crackers AND crumpets, DROOL. The liver mousse is topped with blueberry mostarda. The pickled persimmon balances out the richness of the dish.

you have to order the goat curry

When the menu says “subject to availability”, you order it. I don’t love goat or ever crave it, but when in Rome… This goat, I crave. We ordered a couple of entrees and this is, by far, the best.

confit goat belly

Super different. The broth is so savory and the goat belly has a crunchy pecan crust. So unique and delicious. Also “subject to availability” so yes you have to order it.

naan and dip

It sounds simple but wow the naan is so fluffy and perfectly crispy/charred. And the tahini tofu and carrot 'hummus’ dips, wows.
